Suwehan Beach Nusa Penida: A hidden treasure to discover
If you are looking for a hidden beach with perfect white sand and turquoise waves, Suwehan Beach on the island of Nusa Penida is the answer. This is one of our favourite spots in Nusa Penida - Bali.
There are even cool pointy rocks that look like Christmas trees (or maybe an elf’s hat) and the locals have recently built some treehouses where you can stay close to the cliffs.
This guide will tell you how to get there and everything you need to know before you go!

All you need to know about Suwehan Nusa Penida
The walk to Suwehan Beach is quite short and easy, but it is good exercise for your body. You can start at the top of a large cliff and descend down many uneven rock steps.
When I first visited Suwehan in 2017, it was almost unknown and you had to descend using a sketchy vertical rope for the last part of the climb. It's pretty crazy.
Then, in 2018, large sections of the cliff (and path) were damaged by a landslide, apparently caused by a major earthquake on the island of Lombok.
In 2021, we were finally able to do this hike again, and I'm happy to report that the trail has been completely repaired and is better than ever. The climb takes only about 20 minutes and there are steps and railings along the way.
The climb back up is a bit steep and tiring, but the path is safe and you can see one of the best beaches in Nusa Penida!
Be sure to check the tide times at Suwehan Beach with the hotel you are staying at or your driver before coming here, as at high tide the beach is full of seawater and inaccessible. When the water recedes is the right time to visit.
The beach is incredible and has some similarities to Diamond Beach, with perfect white sand and limestone cliffs and a large photogenic rock called Jineng Rock.
But best of all, it is one of the most hidden beaches in Nusa Penida. Most tourists don't know about it, so you could come here and feel like you have it all to yourself!
We have seen manta rays, turtles and even a small shipwreck on the beach.

Suwehan Beach Tree House
In 2018, local residents built several tree houses at the top of the Suwehan cliff. There are now four of these tree houses, and you can spend the night in them!
The place is still natural, the outside bathroom has a shower and a small hut for ordering food, and the bed looks comfortable and clean.
Best of all, you'll have amazing views of the sea and cliffs, and it's not far from Suwehan Beach!
How to Reach Suwehan Beach
Suwehan Beach is located on the southeast side of Nusa Penida Island, in Tanglad Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency, this beach has a unique character in the form of high cliffs along its very beautiful coastline.
What's more interesting is that not many people know about this beach as it is quite hidden. Entry to Suwehan Beach is free of charge. It is accessible by car or motorbike, about an hour's drive from the main pier and accommodation in North Penida.
Be careful if using a motorbike as the road is rough and can be dangerous in places if you don't slow down!
